Maria Hanshaw · Photoshop + AI Artist

The portraits you wish you had.

Thoughtfully created from the photographs you already have. I’m inviting people to take part in my YouTube photo transformation series, beginning with The Wedding Photos They Never Had.

Apply to take part

Selected transformations are free. Places are limited, and applying does not guarantee selection.

Maria Hanshaw — The portraits you wish you had.

A photograph. An idea. A new possibility.

A little about taking part.

Perhaps you missed a wedding portrait, have a family photograph you would love to bring together, or a treasured image in need of restoration. Tell me what you would like to create and what matters most to keep.

Submissions are welcome from adults aged 18 and over in Australia and internationally. I’m based in Sydney, Australia, so if you’re overseas, please allow for time-zone differences—messages and replies may arrive at different times of day, and we’ll arrange any live conversations at a time that works for us both. A personal story is welcome, but never required.

  1. 01

    Share your idea privately

Tell me the result you’re hoping for and share only photographs you have permission to submit for assessment.

  2. 02

    Agree on the details

If your idea is shortlisted, we’ll discuss the portrait, permissions and whether it is suitable for a public YouTube episode.

  3. 03

    Review before anything is shared

You’ll review the portrait and proposed public material privately. Publication needs your explicit approval.

Before you apply

Sharing your photos. Shaping your portrait.

  1. Tell me what you have in mind. Use the application below to describe the portrait you would love to create, the changes you are hoping for and the details you want to keep. Share as much or as little of your story as you feel comfortable with.
  2. Send your best available photographs. Upload your images or provide a shared cloud-folder link. Original, high-resolution files give me the best starting point. For shared folders, please give maria@mariahanshaw.com.au permission to view and download the files.
  3. Check permission to share. Only supply photographs you own or have permission to submit for assessment. Anyone recognisable in them needs appropriate permission, including the relevant parent or guardian for children. We will confirm any further permissions together before work begins.
  4. I’ll review your application personally. I’ll consider the photographs, your ideas and what is achievable, then contact you if your request is suitable or I need more information. Selected free transformations are limited, so an application does not guarantee a place or completion date.
  5. Know what a selected edit includes. Your selected transformation can become a collection of around 10–130 finished images, depending on the concept, the photographs available and the scope we agree on together. We may explore one concept or several—for a wedding, that could mean creating a collection that tells the story of the whole day. The agreed collection includes one consolidated round of corrections and private delivery of your high-resolution images at a minimum of 4K, with advice on suitable sizes for large-format printing.
  6. Choose how your images may be used. Submitting here is permission for private assessment only. AI processing and use in an educational YouTube tutorial are separate choices. Before anything is published, you will review and explicitly approve the portrait and proposed public material.
  7. Keep the result thoughtful and respectful. Requests should respect everyone pictured. I do not create humiliating or deceptive edits or sexualised images of children. Recreated portraits will be presented as creative artwork.
  8. Ask questions or change your mind. You can contact me privately at maria@mariahanshaw.com.au about your application, permissions or a withdrawal. There is no required purchase, testimonial or referral. If you prefer a private paid commission, you can enquire separately.

Your application comes directly to me for private review. It is not displayed on the website or shared with other applicants.

Your application

What would you love to create?

Submitting for assessment is separate from agreeing to AI processing, a YouTube episode or promotional use. Those permissions are discussed separately, including permission from other people in your photographs.

Selected participants receive a tailored collection of around 10–130 finished images across one or more agreed concepts. We’ll confirm the number of images and creative scope together after reviewing your photographs and ideas. The collection includes one consolidated round of corrections, with clean, high-resolution final images delivered privately at a minimum of 4K (at least 3,840 pixels on the longest edge). Your agreed photo collection is provided free of charge as a selected participant in the YouTube tutorial series.

Your finished images can be prepared for large-format printing. I’ll advise on a suitable print size and file preparation for your chosen format; the best result depends on the original photo’s detail, the final crop and viewing distance.

Required fields are labelled. Your story and reference photos are optional. Nothing is submitted until you review your answers and choose “Send my application”.

01 A little about you
02 Your photograph and idea

Please leave out addresses, full birth dates, identification documents, medical histories and school details.

03 People, rights and reference photos

Every identifiable adult will need to give their own direct permission for further use. Your checkbox does not provide a publication release for somebody else.

Supply your photographs

Upload photos here, share a cloud folder, or use both. Please supply the original, highest-resolution files you have—not screenshots or copies downloaded from social media. A shared folder is best for large files or a complete set.

Confirm your authority above to enable uploads and the folder link. You may also apply without photos and discuss permissions with Maria first.

Up to 3 JPG, PNG or WebP photos, 5 MB each. For larger originals, RAW, TIFF, HEIC or additional images, use a shared folder below. Please do not reduce the quality of your originals to fit the upload limit.

Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud or another cloud-sharing service is welcome. Create a dedicated folder containing only the photos for this request. Give maria@mariahanshaw.com.au permission to view and download the original files, then paste its HTTPS sharing link here. Keep the folder available while Maria reviews your application. You do not need to make it publicly searchable or grant editing access.

Please check the sharing permissions before submitting. Do not include an account password. Folder access will be checked by Maria; this form cannot verify it automatically. Do not share photo links in YouTube comments.

04 Educational YouTube participation

What could appear in a tutorial?

The proposed episode may show your agreed source photographs, before-and-after comparisons, screen recordings of the edit, the finished portrait and an agreed account of the creative brief. Maria may explain Photoshop techniques, AI-assisted steps, corrections and creative decisions for educational purposes.

YouTube is public and has an international audience. Videos may be shared, embedded, downloaded or copied by others. The channel may earn advertising or sponsorship income. Educational use does not make your photos private or remove the need for permission.

Only the material and context you approve will be used. Consent does not cover selling your photos, model training, face datasets, unrelated advertising or paid courses. Those uses are outside this application.

Would you be willing to appear in an educational YouTube tutorial? (required choice)

The free series is intended for willing tutorial participants. Choosing “discuss” or “no” is respected; it does not commit you to a purchase. Maria can explain the options privately.

How would you prefer to be identified? (required choice)
05 AI processing and other uses

This form does not give permission to upload your photos to an AI service. Before any such processing, Maria will explain the named provider, what would be uploaded, relevant overseas processing, retention and training settings, and ask for a separate decision. Photoshop-only work can be discussed where feasible.

Your preference for AI processing (required choice)

Shorts, thumbnails, Facebook, Instagram and website portfolio use need an agreed scope of their own. They are not automatically included in tutorial participation.

May Maria ask about promotional reuse? (required choice)

No testimonial, reaction video, voice recording, marketing subscription, referral or purchase is required. This form does not sign you up for marketing emails.

06 Privacy and your final checks

Maria Hanshaw Design uses your contact details, brief, permission choices and any reference photos to assess your application, manage permissions and contact you about the request. Submissions are for private studio assessment and are not displayed to other applicants.

The website host stores the application, uploaded files and any cloud-folder link, and email services handle receipt and contact messages. Files in a shared folder remain with your chosen cloud provider until Maria downloads them for assessment. Reference images are not included in notification emails. Providing the required information allows Maria to assess the request; reference photos and your personal story are optional.

Maria manages intake, selection and publication approval. You can request access, a correction, deletion or withdrawal privately at maria@mariahanshaw.com.au. Include your application reference if you have one.

Withdrawing before publication stops publication. After publication, Maria will assess removal of copies she controls; copies, downloads or caches held by others may remain. A completed selected edit does not become a forced purchase if you withdraw.

Consent wording version 2026-09-10-v3. Your choices are recorded with your application; additional releases and final publication approval are separate steps.
